Overview of Multi-Dimension Relationships
Multi-Dimension Relationships enhance the "related fields" functionality in White Cup BI, allowing users to pull in related fields based on combinations of dimension IDs. This provides deeper insights and more actionable reporting capabilities.
Previously, related fields could only be accessed for a single dimension, such as location or product. With Multi-Dimension Relationships, you can now analyze data tied to dimension combinations, such as location and product. This unlocks richer, more detailed insights to help you make better data-driven decisions.
What Multi-Dimension Relationships Do
This feature enhances your reporting by enabling:
- Combined Dimension Insights: Pull in data linked to multiple dimensions simultaneously.
- Granular Analysis: Access detailed information, such as:
- Statuses: Determine whether a product is in stock or pending.
- Safety Stock Levels: Monitor whether inventory levels meet minimum thresholds at specific locations.
- Last Receipt Dates: Track when products were last received at a particular warehouse.
Example Use Case: A Distributor’s Insight
For a distributor managing multiple warehouses and product lines, Multi-Dimension Relationships offer:
- Proactive Stock Management: Quickly identify products below safety stock levels at specific locations to replenish inventory and prevent stockouts.
- Inventory Tracking: Analyze last receipt dates to optimize stock rotation and ensure timely deliveries.
- Comprehensive Status Updates: Filter inventory reports by product and location to identify pending or out-of-stock items.
This capability enables distributors to streamline their operations, improve order fulfillment, and optimize supply chain efficiency.
Key Differences from Single-Dimension Reporting
- Traditional Reporting: Previously, related fields could only be pulled based on a single dimension, limiting the scope of your analysis to either location or product independently.
- Multi-Dimension Relationships: Now, you can combine dimensions to analyze more nuanced intersections of data, like specific inventory metrics for each warehouse-product combination.
How to Use Multi-Dimension Relationships
You can access Multi-Dimension Relationships through the updated column selection menus in White Cup BI:
- Find the New Categories: Look for fields under “Linked Details”
- Add Relevant Fields: Select and include the fields you need in your reports, just like any other columns.
-
Add New Relationships Through the UI :
When creating a new cube or modifying an existing cube , relationships can now be added directly through the UI. This simplifies the setup process by allowing you to define dimension combinations and link relevant data.- Navigate to the Admin tab.
- Click on ETL Configuration.
- Navigate to the cube creation/modify page.
-
Use the "Relationships" section to define the necessary relationships.
- Fill out the relationship details.
- Name: The internal identifier for the relationship.
- Title: The user-facing name of the relationship. This is what will appear in the UI when users select columns for their reports. Choose a title that is descriptive and easy to understand for end-users.
- Select the relevant database table.
- Specify the dimensions involved in the relationship
