The Quick Grid option was added in version 5.5 of Tour de Force, and the main purpose of the feature is to avoid having to clean up grids manually after each upgrade. In the past, when a company would upgrade to a newer version of Tour de Force, any new columns that had been added in the newer version of Tour de Force would automatically load into the grids changing a lot of the views that had already been set up by the users. The Quick Grid option helps with avoiding that issue when a new update is applied.
Overview of the Quick Grid Feature
In the past, when a company would upgrade to a newer version of Tour de Force, any new columns that had been added in the new version would automatically load into the grids. This would end up changing a lot of the views that had already been set up by the users and forcing those users to remove the columns and save their views. The Quick Grid option helps with avoiding that issue when a new update is applied. If an administrator has run the Quick Grid update utility, and the user has Quick Grid option enabled, then those users should not have to go back and clean up their views.
Before the Quick Grid feature can be used by normal users of Tour de Force, an administrative user needs to perform a quick update to the grids in the Global Grid Manager. Section B outlines the steps that administrators need to take in order to prepare the grids for the Quick Grid feature.
- Preparing Grids for the Quick Grid Feature
This section outlines the steps that administrators need to perform in order to prepare the grids for use of the Quick Grid feature.
NOTE: The action that this utility performs is the clean-up of views; however, the correct way to look at this step is that the grids are being upgraded for the Quick Grid. DO NOT use the Clean-up Grid View option in this utility without consulting Tour de Force first.
Use the following procedures to perform an update on the grids for use of the Quick Grid option:
- Open the Admin Utilities drop-down.
- Expand the Screen and Grid Design section.
- Select the Global Grid Manager option
- Click the Grid Management Tasks button.
- In the Grid Management Tasks menu select Clean-up Grid Views.
- Introduction – click next
- Select the Items to Clean, note there is a Select all check box, then choose ok
- After clicking ok a new grid displays that shows all of the relevant data related to most of the views in Tour de Force.
There are five fields on this grid that a user needs to take note of:
Grid Location – This field shows where the view is located at in Tour de Force.
View Name – This field shows the view’s name.
# Actual Visible Fields – This field shows the number of all of the fields available for that view that are going to load when that view is selected and the Quick Grid option is disabled.
# Expected Visible Fields – This field shows the number of fields that the view is currently expected to use. This is either due to filters chosen or columns picked in the column chooser.
# Difference – This field shows the number of fields that would be removed from loading in that view when the Quick Grid option is selected.
To view the fields that would be cleaned if the utility was run, Look at the Post Clean Up

- Preparing Grids for the Quick Grid Feature
After the update process has run and the grid views cleaned up, the Quick Grid option can now be used in the grids in Tour de Force. The Quick Grid option is a toggable feature that can be turned on and off by any normal user of Tour de Force, and only applies to their local machine.
The Quick Grid option can be turned on and applied to most of the grids in Tour de Force and the steps are the same for each grid.
Use the following procedures to enable the Quick Grid option in a grid in Tour de Force:
- When in your Tour de Force Info Center
- Choose a grid to enable the Quick Grid feature on.
For example, select the Account tab to enable open the Accounts grid.
- Click the Grid Preferences button.
- Select the Toggle Quick Grid Mode option.
After the Toggle Quick Grid Mode option has been checked, either click the refresh button or close and reopen the grid to apply the settings. With the Quick Grid option enabled only the fields that are expected to be in that view are going to load in the grid and, in most cases, significantly decrease the loading time of the grid. In order to disable Quick Grid mode, simply uncheck the option in the Grid Preferences and then refresh or reload the grid.
