- Overview of the Breadcrumbs Bar
In Tour de Force, records and items maintain a grandparent, parent, child, and grandchild relationship. When a record or item is created from a record, that record or item becomes the child of the parent record. For more information about the record and item relationship in Tour de Force refer to Technical Bulletin 6600 – Records and Items of Tour de Force.
The Breadcrumbs bar is a useful way to see the relationship between each record and item in Tour de Force and without it navigation through Tour de Force would be much more difficult. The Breadcrumbs bar is located at the top of each record and item form. The Breadcrumbs bar does not appear on a new item or record until that record or item is saved.
In the above screen shot the Breadcrumbs bar goes as follows:
Level 4 > Level 3/Account Root > Account Package > Account record > Contact record > The item form currently open
Central Region - This is the Level 4 that has been set up in the Folder Structure admin. This is typically the name of the Company that all territories and branches fall under.
Toledo Branch – This is the Account Root, also known as Level 3, that has been set up in the Folder Structure admin. The Account Root could also be known as a Sales Territory or even a Sales Branch depending upon how your company is set up.
Dan Shawver – This is the Account Package that has been set up in the Folder Structure admin. Account Packages could also be a Sales Territory, a Sales Branch, or even a Sales Manager, as in the above example.
XYZ Supplies – This is the Account record that has been created. In this example the Account record is the grandparent of the Activity item.
Don Smith - This is the Contact record that the Activity item was created from. In this example the Contact record is the parent of the Activity item.
(Activity) – This is the current item that is open. If this form was a Task form then (Task) would display, an Appointment would display as (Appointment), etc.
Understanding the structure of the Breadcrumbs bar is essential to understanding how to use the Breadcrumbs bar to navigate Tour de Force quickly and efficiently.
- Navigating Tour de Force using the Breadcrumbs Bar
When a record or item is created from another record or item, the Breadcrumbs bar shows the record or item that the child item was created from. The Breadcrumbs bar can be looked at the same way as a file path is looked at in Windows. The Breadcrumbs bar shows where the record or item was created from and provides a way to navigate up the path chain, much like a file path.
For example, if an Activity item is created from an Opportunity record the user can navigate to that Opportunity record from the Activity item by clicking the Opportunity name in the Breadcrumbs bar.
Use the following procedures to navigate Tour de Force using the Breadcrumbs bar:
- Create a new record or item from another Tour de Force record or item or open an existing record or item.
- Once the form opens navigate to the Breadcrumbs bar.
Note that there are two options available for navigation: The parent record and the grandparent record. In this example the parent record is the “New building for headquarters” Opportunity record, and the grandparent record is the “A & B Stainless Valve Inc” Account record.
- Click the “New Building for headquarters” link.
- The Opportunity record opens in a new window and the Breadcrumbs bar updates to show the form change.
- Click the “A & B Stainless Valve Inc” link.
- The Account record opens in a new window and the Breadcrumbs bar updates to show the form change.
- The Quick Actions Menu
Although the “main” function of the Breadcrumbs bar are the creation path and navigation functions, the Quick Actions menu is also available from the Breadcrumbs bar. The Quick Actions menu is a quick way to create new items or record from the Breadcrumbs bar without having to actually open the record or item.
For example, a user can right click on an Account record name from an Activity item and create a new record or item without having to open the Account record.
Use the following procedure to open the Quick Actions menu using the Breadcrumbs bar:
- Open any record or item that is a child record or item.
- Navigate to the Breadcrumbs bar.
- Right-click on one of the parent records in the Breadcrumbs bar. The Quick Actions menu appears.
From the Quick Actions menu users can open the record or item, create a new record or item, view any record or items linked to that record or item, view any templates related to the record or item, and open any of the profile tabs located on that form.
