Starting in MITS Report version 3.5, there is the option to have MITS Report authenticate users against MITS Discover. This has the advantage of:
A) Allowing users to have the same username and password for both MITS Report and MITS Discover.
B) Allowing users to quickly switch between MITS Report and MITS Discover without having to log in each time.
C) Display MITS Report content on MITS Discover dashboards and scorecards.
D) If MITS Discover is setup to use Active Directory for authentication, then this means users can also use their Active Directory username and password when logging in to MITS Report.
To enable this feature, log into MITS Report as "admin" or with an account that has administrative rights. Once logged in, go to the Admin tab. On the Admin tab is a section called Manage Authentication. Click on that tab to access the options.
Within Manage Authentication, you should have two options available to you.
Local Authentication - This keeps MITS Report and MITS Discover authentication separate. The usernames and passwords used in each of the two products will have nothing to do with each other and do not need to be coordinated. This option may be preferred if you have users who will only be using MITS Report and not MITS Discover.
MITS Discover Authentication - This option uses the passwords stored in MITS Discover to be us ed by a user when logging in to MITS Report. Enabling this feature allows for the use of common user credentials between MITS Report and MITS Discover, rapid switching between the two products, and sharing of MITS Report data on MITS Discover dashboards and scorecards.
Mark the radio button to enable the feature.
If you do not have that feature available or it is greyed out and unavailable to you, contact support@mits.com for assistance. It may be that you're on an older version without this feature, or it may be that your MITS Report and MITS Discover are not configured correctly to know where each other is located. Either way, MITS Support can assist you.
Once MITS Discover Authentication has been enabled, return to the User Management page. For any users that have a MITS Report account but NOT a MITS Discover account, there will be a warning icon next to the user's name.
For this feature to work, the user must also have an account in MITS Discover. Log into MITS Discover at this point and create new accounts for any MITS Report users that don't already have MITS Discover accounts.
If MITS Discover is configured to use Active Directory, the username should be the same as the user's Active Directory username.
About User Account Names
If MITS Report is set up to use local authorization, meaning the usernames and passwords are not connected to MITS Discover, then the capitalization of the user account matter. "JOE" is not the same as "Joe" in this case.
But if MITS Report is set up to use MITS Discover authorization, then capitalization does not matter and "JOE" and "Joe" are both valid. However, MITS Report may throw and error if you have two accounts with the same username.
