Upgrading your MITS instance on Windows is usually a matter of downloading and running the installer for the newest version of MITS on the MITS server. For the most part, the installer will see your existing instance of MITS and pick up all of the same settings.
While this process is straight forward, it can be technical. If you'd prefer to have MITS conduct the upgrade for you, contact support@mits.com to see what options are available for your account.
Find Your License Keys
But before you begin, you will want to gather your license information for both MITS Discover and MITS Report. At the end of the upgrade you'll need to reapply the licenses with new keys. Having the license numbers before you upgrade will save you from having to contact Support after the upgrade to get them.
In both MITS Discover and MITS Report, you'll find the license information in the menubar of the Admin tab.
MITS Discover has two license numbers you'll need. One is labeled MITS Discover Activation and the other is labeled Dashboard Activation. MITS Report just has one license number and it is labeled Product Activation.
For each of these licenses, click on the link in the menu to open the dialog box containing the keys and licenses. Make note of the license numbers. You do not need the key numbers since these will change with each new version of MITS.
Know Your Current Installation Type
You should be aware of the type of installation of the MITS software you have installed. It will make a difference in how you proceed.
MITS can be installed in one of two ways. MITS Discover and MITS Report can be installed as stand alone programs using separate Windows services; or MITS Discover and MITS Report can be installed as a unified instance sharing a Windows service.
If the server hosting MITS is running a 32bit version of Microsoft Windows, then you will be running the stand alone versions of MITS Discover and/or MITS Report. You can verify this by opening the Services tool in Windows and looking for the MITS services.
If you have MITS Discover, you should see a service called "MITS Web".
If you have MITS Report, you should see a service called "MITS Report".
On the other hand, if the server hosting MITS is running a 64bit version of Microsoft Windows, then you could be running either the 32bit or 64bit versions of MITS Discover and MITS Report. Again, check the Services tool in Windows.
If you have the 32bit version of MITS installed, you'll see the same "MITS Web" and/or "MITS Report" services.
But if you are running the 64bit version of MITS, the service name will be "MITS". You will also see a service called "MITS Cube Builder".
The process below is ONLY for the 64 bit version of MITS Discover and MITS Report. If you see "MITS Web" or "MITS Report" in the Services tool of Windows, contact support@mits.com for assistance with migrating MITS to the 64bit version.
Download the Installer
You can download the installer for the latest version of MITS from our FTP website.
ftp://ftp.mits.com/MITS/Core_Software
Save it to an easy place to find, such at the Desktop.
Disable any antivirus and malware protection programs prior to running the installer. For more discussion on how AV programs impact MITS, see this article.
Running the Installer
Once downloaded, right click on the installer and select "Run As Administrator". This will help ensure MITS gets updated with the proper permissions.
If you are upgrading an existing installation of MITS, then the installer should pick up all of the existing configuration settings. In that case, you can simply verify the settings on each step of the installer and click "Next" to advance.
If you're not installing to the same directory, stop at this point and contact support@mits.com . There are additional considerations to address before installing parallel instances of MITS on the same server.
Accept the license agreement.
Verify the listening ports for the MITS services and Tomcat. The installer will pre-populate these with the ports already in use.
If you are running parallel instances of MITS (such as having two installations of MITS for two different divisions of a company), then at least one of the instances will be installed with a unique suffix. This allows Windows to run two versions of the same program and services. This box will only be editable if you already have more than once instance of MITS installed and running.
If you have more than one instance of MITS installed and running on this server, this box will default to the primary instance. If you want to upgrade one of the other instances, you'll need to manually modify this box to enter the suffix for the instance you want to upgrade.
You can find the suffix by looking at the MITS service names in the Services tool of Windows.
This page is for indicating which products you have licenses for. Most customers have both MITS Discover and MITS Report, but if you only have a license for one and not the other, verify the checkboxes are correct.
For upgrades, you'll use the default location. But if the MITS instances of Universe (one of the databases used by MITS) is in a different location, select custom. If your ERP also uses Universe as its database, this may not be the same instance that MITS uses. Check with support@mits.com for assistance.
This screen verifies the installation path for Universe as well as the credentials UniVerse should use to access this server.
The path to the UniVerse installation should point to the existing installation. If it is pointed somewhere else, the installer will install another instance of MITS rather than upgrade the existing instance. This can lead to trouble and MITS not working.
The credentials should be the same as the credentials you set up for the MITS account.
With the variables all confirmed, click Next to start the upgrade process.
Depending on the speed and available resources on the server, this process can take anywhere from a few seconds to an hour.
Be patient and let the process finish. Interrupting the process can result in MITS failing to upgrade properly. In turn, this will require a MITS technician to correct and could be costly.
When you get to this screen, the upgrade is complete.
The MITS installer will clean up any temporary files it created. Click Finish.
Once MITS Discover has been updated, you'll need to relicense MITS Discover (and its Dashboards) as well as MITS Report.
You can find instructions on those process here:

Finally, it is best to have your users empty the cache on their web browsers. This ensures the web browser is using the most current components of MITS.
